Apple just dropped the specs for the M4 Ultra, and it’s exactly what power users have been waiting for. The new chip doubles down on the M4 Max architecture, fusing two M4 Max dies together for a combined 32-core CPU and up to 80-core GPU.

For content creators and developers, the M4 Ultra supports up to 192GB of unified memory, which is absurd. Video editors working with 8K ProRes footage and 3D artists rendering massive scenes will finally stop hitting memory walls.

But what caught our attention is the gaming angle. Apple has been quietly building out Metal 3 support, and with this much GPU horsepower, native Mac gaming is looking less like a pipe dream. Early reports suggest AAA titles running at high settings with stable framerates on the new Mac Studio and Mac Pro.

The M4 Ultra will ship in the Mac Studio starting at $3,999 and the Mac Pro starting at $6,999. Expensive? Sure. But for the performance-per-watt ratio, nothing in the Windows world comes close.
