Nintendo has finally pulled back the curtain on the successor to the wildly popular Switch console. The Switch 2 promises a significant leap in power while maintaining the hybrid handheld/console design that defined its predecessor.

What’s New Under the Hood

The Switch 2 is powered by a custom NVIDIA chip that brings a massive performance uplift over the original. Nintendo is targeting native 1080p in handheld mode and up to 4K when docked, a significant jump that should finally bring the platform closer to parity with competing consoles. The 8-inch OLED panel is bright and vivid, and the slightly larger form factor feels natural in the hands.

The redesigned Joy-Con controllers now attach magnetically and feature a new mouse-like sensor on the right controller, opening up fresh gameplay possibilities.
